Gerald J. McClure, 65, of Flat Rock, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Dec. 7, 1949, to Virl "Bub" McClure and Phyllis (Alexander) McClure in Shelbyville.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jennifer L. (McCorkle) McClure; daughter, Nichole Jae Hellums and husband, Todd, of Greenfield; sons: Nathan L. McClure and wife, Marty, of Flat Rock; and Clayton W. McClure of Bloomington; six grandchildren: Timothy L. Higgins and companion, Chelsae Coffey; Taylor Kae Higgins and companion, Thomas Cloud; and Brady McClure, Blake McClure, Tyler Hellums and Regan Hellums; great-grandchildren, Eleanor Jean Arlene "Ellie" Cloud and Timothy L. "Tatum" Higgins IV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald "Neal" McClure; and brother, Ray McClure.

Mr. McClure was raised in the Flat Rock area and he resided in the Flat Rock area his whole life. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1968, then joined the National Guard.

He started his employment with International Harvester (Navistar), where he worked for 39 years at the time of his retirement.

During that time he obtained a college degree from Ivy Tech Community College and served as steward of the local United Auto Workers.

Gerald was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening, canning, making wine and was an excellent wood craftsman.

Gerald devoted his life to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Andy Lee officiating.

Burial will be at Van Pelt Cemetery in Waldron.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. McClure.

Wow...........God has another great one. Jennifer and the entire McClure family, my heart is saddened by the news of our Gerald passing. He was such an icon to the kids that came into his life by the way of his children. He was also a great friend of the parents of those children, mine included. Gerald was a friend and mentor to many, but most of all, I know that he loves the most important woman in his life. That's you Jennifer. Thank you for letting him share hugs and laughter and the most wonderful memories.

I was truly sad to hear this news. He was loving man and a truly good person. I pray that God have mercy on his soul. He will be greatly missed and our prayers are with the family.

Gerald was a really good guy. I worked with him for over 35 years.He will be missed.
