Lester Allen Martin, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Heritage House in Shelbyville.

He was born Jan. 10, 1931, to Merritt E. Martin and Lucy Martin in Shelbyville. He married Marcia Raney in 1971 and she preceded him in death in 2004.

Survivors include six children: Gregory Martin of Orlando, Florida; Teresa Oeffinger of Shelbyville; Kathy Berger of Shelbyville; Jeffrey Bowman and friend, Lorrie, of Jacksonville, Florida; Leslye Doyle of Winter Garden, Florida; and Diann Spurling and husband, Jay, of Shelbyville; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two half brothers; and one half sister.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Mr. Martin retired as plant manager at National Ambulance Service in Orlando.

He enjoyed cabinetry, raising birds, flea markets and ballroom dancing.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.

Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County. Graveside military rites will be conducted by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N. Meridian St., Suite B-4, Indianapolis, IN 46209-7109.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Martin.

I am sorry to hear Les has died. I hadn't seen him in a long time, but he was always a nice guy and fun to be around on our vacation trips to Florida. I wish all his family the best to get through this.

Diann, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you've been in my thoughts and prayers lately. I'm sure this is a very emotional time for you.
