Michael Gene “Mike” Tennell, 63, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 14, 1951 to Harold E and Martha (Johnson) Tennell.

He married Melody Kuhn on Dec. 4, 1970 and she survives.  Other survivors include his parents; son, Scott, wife Jennifer, Tennell of Franklin, IN; daughter, Carrie, husband, Curtis, Smithson of Orange Park, FL.; grandsons, Devin Tennell, Zachary Tennell, and Chad Tennell all of Orange Park, FL.; granddaughter, Kalyn Bryant of Franklin, IN; brothers, Andy, wife, Theresa, Tennell of Edinburgh, IN and Tim, wife, Lori, Tennell of Franklin, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tennell was a member of Bengal Christian Church.  He was a former member of Indiana Bass Club.  He was active in the Sunday Morning Bass Tournaments at Lake Allatoona, GA.  for several years just prior to moving back to Indiana

He was employed at Roytech in Woodstock, Ga. for 26 years as a maintenance supervisor before retiring in May 2014.

Mr. Tennell was a veteran of the National Guard.

His pleasures were family - friends - and fishing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mr. Tennell, may be made to Bengal Christian Church, 3534 S Shelby 750 W, Franklin, IN 46131.

Visitation will be Monday, January 5, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Doug Adams officiating.

Funeral directors, Greg, Sheila and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Tennell.

We will miss having Mike in our lives. From horse races to ROOK games, he was always a good buddy with a good smile and a good story. We are thinking of Mel and her family in such a difficult time.

My sincere condolences to Mel and the family. Mike was a very good man and I enjoyed having many lunches and company outings with him during my time at Roytec. We shared many good times and I was so glad to see him just before his retirement and the move back to Indiana. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. Rest in peace my friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. I considered Mike as a friend and respected him deeply. He was truly a good man. I have fond memories of Mike...many of which bring a smile to my face and cause me to chuckle. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Words cannot express the sorrow felt at this time and the knowing that I will never see him again. However all the memories I have will live on forever and I will cherish them. Mike was such a wonderful person who took me into his and Mel's family years ago and offered not only friendship but love. I will miss sitting at the kitchen table chatting as he would get up and go to the fridge to get me my Coke, or talking to him on the phone while waiting on Mel to get home. I won't miss the boat with the fish in the bottom flopping around or him laughing at me that I finally realized where he had put the fish. Being a "second wife" was a honor. Mike was a man that gave so much of himself willingly and made everyone feel special. I know that I am not alone with these feelings of such loss. My love to the family and prayers. Mike is home and that is what matters. Mel, love you and the rest of the family.
