Maurice Eugene "Gene" Davis, 91, of Cocoa, Fla., passed away Friday. Nov. 7, 2014, at St. Francis Hospice Center in Cocoa.

He was born May 22, 1923 in Boggstown, to Chester Buell Davis and Alice (Crosby) Davis. He married Loretta Griner, and she survives.

Other survivors include daughter, Pamela Green of Shelbyville; grandsons, Todd Green of Shelbyville and Ashley Davis and Spencer Davis of Indianapolis; sisters, Elinor Morton of Florida and Marilyn Brooks of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and niece, Jeanine Ball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice Jeannette (Smith) Davis; brother, Harold Davis; sister, Mary Wilhelm; and son, Michael Davis.

Mr. Davis was a charter member of Beacon Baptist Church; after moving to Florida, he attended Victory Baptist Church.

He worked in the sales department for Sandman Brothers for 40 years.

His interest was in dirt track racing, which he was owner of several cars. Otherwise he would travel with his son's band.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Robert Prather officiating.

Burial will take place in Boggstown Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be given to Beacon Baptist Church, 918 E. McKay Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Davis.
