Claude M. Smothers, 63, of Greensburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

He was born May 24, 1951, to Claude E. Smothers and Mary (Elliott) Smothers in Shelbyville. He married Dora Pursifull on July 31, 1993, and she survives.

Other survivors include his sons: Michael Smothers and wife, Crystal; and Larry Smothers of Shelbyville; daughter, Mary Jo Cain; stepsons, Etienne Maupin, Timothy Maupin and David Maupin; 10 grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald, Ricky and Scott Smothers, all of Shelbyville; and sisters, Peggy Milner of Florida, Faye Wilkinson of Shelbyville, Judy Smith of Arkansas, Dolly Smothers of Shelbyville, Christina Leffler of Shelbyville and Mae Comstock of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Smothers; and sister, Linda Dyer.

Mr. Smothers was a devoted member of First Southern Baptist Church. Claude was a true disciple as he spread the truth of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

If Claude wasn't studying his Bible, he could be found following his favorite teams, the Cincinnati Reds, Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the funeral home, with Pastor Edwin Mohr and the Rev. William Flannigan officiating.

Burial will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Smothers.
