Thomas Gilbert Greene, 77, of Fairland died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at his residence.
Born Oct. 7, 1932, in Glennonville, Mo., he was the son of James Arthur and Mary Isabelle (Carrico) Greene. He married Helen Barbara Bauer on Dec. 13, 1952, and she survives.

Other survivors include daughters, Gail Gleason of Shelbyville and Barbara (husband, Doug) Cooper and Linda (husband, Steve) Beatty, both of Fairland; son, Edward (wife, Terri) Greene of Boggstown; sisters, Mary Wake and Sharon Smith, both of Loogootee; brother, William Greene of Tampa; grandchildren, Sandra (husband, David) Pruitt, Samuel (wife, Shannon) House, Benjamin House, Kelly Copper, Sheila (husband, Gary) Showalter, Tanja Green (fiancee, Nick Mcclain), Kyla Green (fiancee, Kris Rush), Jacob Gleason, Rick Gleason, Thomas Beatty, Joseph Beatty and Thomas Copper; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Lentz; and brothers, Robert Greene, Donald Greene and Norbert Greene.

Mr. Greene was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea.

He had been employed by Crane Naval Station from 1951 to 1957; then was an automotive factory worker for Ford Motor Co. from 1957 to April 1, 1987. During that time he held several union offices for Local No. 1111, serving as president for two terms.

Mr. Greene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 57 years and of the American Legion Post No. 61.

He was an avid outdoor sportsman, and his home was known as a safe place for children to come to live or stay for a short time.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with Father Chris Craig officiating.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with graveside military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., Shelbyville IN 46176; or St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1560 N. Michigan Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
