Herbert A. Alexander, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Major Hospital.
He was born Oct. 1, 1928, to Lester Alexander and Sadie (Brown) Alexander in Morristown. He married Judy (Elkins) Alexander on Jan. 17, 1978, and she survives in Shelbyville.
Other survivors include daughter, Shannon Moss and husband, David, of Shelbyville; sons: Rick Alexander and wife, Lisa, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and Scott Alexander and wife, Kelly, of Indianapolis; stepsons: Greg Weaver and wife, Kathy, of Shelbyville; and Jeff Weaver and Todd Weaver, both of Shelbyville; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, June Eshelman of Tempe, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and sister, Betty.
Mr. Alexander served with U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He worked for Admiral Corp. for 17 years, then for Continental Kitchen before retiring from Carl Mohr Construction. He was a skilled woodworking craftsman.
He had a sharp eye for billiards. He was an avid Indiana University and Indianapolis Colts follower. His favorite pastime was being on the dance floor with his beautiful bride.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Friday.
Herbert will be laid to rest in the Honor and Glory Veterans Garden at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville, with full military rites provided by local veterans organizations.
Memorial contributions may be made to Murphy-Parks Funeral Service to cover funeral expenses.
