Joe E. Ray

Joe E. Ray, 82, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at his home.

 

He was born to Wilbur M. Ray and Katherine “Cloce” Ray in Shelbyville on Jan. 29, 1931.

 

Survivors include: son, Todd W. Ray, of Shelbyville; grandson, Nolan Ray, of Shelbyville; granddaughter, Alexandra Ray, of Shelbyville; and sisters, Joann Smith, of Mooresville, and Beverly Elliott, of Shelbyville.


 

He was preceded in death by his mother; father; two brothers; and four sisters.

He served in the Navy. He was employed as a postal carrier by the Postal Service. Mr. Ray attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and Moose Lodge.

 

He enjoyed fishing, bowling and golfing.

 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory, 703 South Harrison St., Shelbyville.

 

Services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service and Crematory with Robert Prather officiating.

 

Burial will take place in the Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock with graveside military rites conducted by several local veterans organizations.

 

Memorials may be made to VFW Lodge #2695 and Riley Children's Hospital in care of Murphy Parks Funeral Service.

 

Murphy-Parks Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks and Sheila J. Parks are honored to conduct services for Mr. Ray.
