John William Scott, 85, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 20, 1928, to Homer J. Scott and Minnie Louwella (Moore) Scott in Shelby County. He married Mary (Conover) Scott Nov. 11, 1950, and she survives in Shelbyville.

Other survivors include three children, John "Randy" (wife, Beckie) Scott, Debbie (husband, Chuck) Coon and David Scott, all of Shelbyville; six grandchildren, Jason, Brandi, Emily, Kylee, Chrissie and Connie; seven great-grandchildren, Cara, Cayden, Kiya, Gracie, Mikayla, Karsen and Kiersten; and brother, Arthur Scott.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Walter Scott and Larry Scott; and sisters, Ruth Glasco and Thelma Drake.

Mr. Scott served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service.

He worked for Bill Scott Trucking.

Mr. Scott was a member of Bengal Christian Church, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. William Horner officiating.

Burial will be at the Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin. Military rites will be performed by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's honor to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 E. 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201 or Major Home Care, 150 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Scott.

To the Scott family, our condolences and prayers are with all of the family. Times remembered with your family during special times in our lives together.
