Betty J. Nicholson, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Ashford Place Health Campus.

She was born July 24, 1929, to Clyde Hobbs and Opal (Lee) Hobbs in Shelby County. She married John Nicholson Sept. 21, 1945, and he survives.

Other survivors include six children, Joyce (husband, Dennis) Able of Indianapolis, Lois (husband, Jim) Dehn of Greenwood, Fred Nicholson of Bloomington, Ted (wife, Wilma) Nicholson of Shelbyville, Patty (husband, David) Phelps of Shelbyville and Karen (husband, Lee) Brown of Texas; 23 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clyde Hobbs; sister; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nicholson worked for Continental Kitchens for 14 1/2 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Bible Holiness Church in Shelbyville. She loved reading, cooking and crocheting.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Bible Holiness Church, 910 S. Tompkins St.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Joseph Smith officiating.

Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville.

Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to Bible Holiness Church, 910 S. Tompkins St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mrs. Nicholson.

I knew Betty from church and loved her so much she always had a kind word and smile for my daughter Abigail Mays and I. She was a kind and loving lady who will be truly missed

I have a lot of fond memories of your mom. I can remember going home after church & her cooking and spending a lot of days at her house!!
Remember when they made us try on all those clothes??
She was an awesome person!!
