Jean had been a resident of Shelbyville for the past twenty years.  Previously, she lived in West Alexandria, Ohio where she and her husband of 29 years, Delmas L. Parsons, raised their family.

Mrs. Parsons enjoyed an elementary teaching career that spanned thirty years, including full time and substitute teaching in both Kentucky and Ohio and was fondly known as ‘Sarge’ by many of her students.

Formerly a member of the First Brethren Church of Gratis, Ohio, she was an active member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and the Crusaders Sunday School class.  She also enjoyed eighteen years of shenanigans at the Shelby Senior Center.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3718 East Blue Ridge Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.  The funeral service will begin at noon with Dr. Robb Barlow officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Karen and Robb and family,

So very sorry to hear of Jean's passing. She has been a courageous woman to overcome the health obstacles that she has had over the years. You will all be in my thoughts and prayers as you get through the next days, weeks, etc in celebrating her life and grieving her death. She is residing in eternal paradise where we will encounter her again someday. Love to all, Amy Shadley

To Jean's Family: I am a first cousin of Jean and resident of Frankfort, Ky. My mother was a sister of Aunt Laura Holbrook. My brother, Chester Harris, Jr. still resides on the Harris family farm in Elliott County and hears from cousin Arlene often. I am saddened to hear of Jean's passing as this last year my wife and I lost our only daughter of 37 years to cancer. So, we grieve for others, especially of blood kin. It has been many years since I have seen and talked to her but have a vivid memory of her outgoing personality.

I didn't know Jean very well, and only saw her a handful of times, but when I did see her she was always happy and smiling. She treated my kids as if they were her own grandchildren, and I always referred to her as Grandma Jean. My prayers go out to your entire family.

To all of Jean's children, I am sadden by your Mother's death. I was wondering where she was and how she was doing-so I googled her name-and found her obituary. Again you all have my sympathy-Jean was a wonderful woman.
