Charles W. "Charlie" Brown, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Major Hospital.

He was born Sept. 4, 1940, to Charles E. Brown and L. Helen (Eckstein) Brown in Shelbyville. He married Mary Louise Kappes Jan. 5, 1963, and she preceded him in death April 16, 2011.

Survivors include five children, Alletta (husband, Gary Jenkins) Thurston, William (wife, Connie) Dwenger, Bernard (wife, Deloris) Brown, Dena Caldwell and Christopher Brown, all of Shelbyville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, David (wife, Gwendolyn) Brown of Shelbyville and Steve (wife, Kathy) Brown of Rising Sun.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Teresa Priddy and Pamela Caine; and brother, Raymond Brown.

Mr. Brown was employed with International Harvester for 31 1/2 years as a janitor before retiring in 1990. He was an avid Indiana University basketball fan and Indianapolis Colts football fan. He enjoyed watching television game shows and John Wayne movies were his favorite. Most of all, he loved his dog and companion, Harley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the funeral home with Shelbyville Community Church officiating.

Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Brown.

I worked with Charlie for many years at Navistar. He was a fun guy and friend. He will be missed. My sympathy goes out to the family.
