Richard O. "Hop" Wainscott, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1926, to George W. Wainscott and Emily J. "Emma" (Martin) Wainscott in Shelby County. He married Gayle Dillenger on Feb. 18, 1961, and she preceded him in death on July 28, 1995.
Survivors include daughter, Deborah Lynn (husband, Terry) Tyler of Shelbyville; granddaughter, Erica Gruden; grandson, Travis Whittaker; stepsons, Richard Trout of Baltimore and James Trout of Manilla; stepdaughter, Nancy (husband, Mike) Smith of Shelbyville; several stepgrandchildren; sister, Violet Ray of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews; and caregiver, Edith Gehring. He is also survived by his precious dog, "his little girl, B."
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ira Wainscott, William "Bill" Wainscott, Arthur "Art" Wainscott and Melvin "Catfish" Wainscott; four sisters, Goldie Collins, Rosie Gobel, Virginia "Jenny" Gobel and Sylvia "Sib" Lochard; and one stepdaughter.
Mr. Wainscott was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II from 1945 to 1947. He was a member of VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed playing softball and watching sports. He had fun wherever he went.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
Funeral services will follow at 12 noon Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.
Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Wainscott Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
