William A. Lee, 85, of Flat Rock, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.

He was born Nov. 24, 1927, to Clarence Lee and Ruth (Ziegler) Lee in Bengal, Ind. He married Corinne (O'Kelly) Lee on Nov. 18, 1961, and she survives.

Other survivors include son, Raymond Belyea of Toledo, Ohio; daughter, Corinne (husband, Randy) Guffey of Waldron; son, Robert Belyea of Las Vegas; daughter, Jean Belyea of Tallahassee, Fla.; son, Clarence Lee of Waldron; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Lee of Freetown; and sister, Carolyn (husband, Darrell) Imlay of Hartsville. He is also survived by his beloved dogs, Izey and Shelby.

He was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Lee served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War for a total of 22 years. He was awarded a Bronze Star. During his time in Vietnam he met actor John Wayne and author John Steinbeck. Upon his retirement, he was employed with Gelfius Farms in Osgood for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, especially his fruit trees and always shared his blessings with his neighbors. Mr. Lee enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing, especially for walleye.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Crossroads Community Church, 475 E. Progress Parkway, Shelbyville, with the Rev. Andy Lee officiating.

Burial will be at Whispering Hope Memorial Gardens in the Hereos of Honor and Glory Veterans Garden in Shelbyville. Military rites will be performed by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Hospital for Children or Shelby County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

Funeral Directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Lee.
