Gerald W. Scofield, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Heritage House Convalescent Center.

He was born June 1, 1929, in Shelbyville to Ralph and Wilma (Ash) Scofield. He married Larilla Jean (Brown) Scofield on Jan. 4, 1953, at Edgewood United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, and she survives in Shelbyville.

Other survivors include son, Steven R. Scofield of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law, Denise Pockevich Scofield of Frankfort; two grandchildren, Brian Scofield of Indianapolis and Michael Scofield of Wyoming; and two step-grandchildren, Amber Nash of Cincinnati and Stacy Alan Nash of New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Gregory A. Scofield.

Mr. Scofield graduated in 1948 from Shelbyville High School and in 1952 from Franklin College with a bachelor of arts degree in economics.

He was president of Scofield Furniture Store and worked there for 35 years, retiring in October 2004.

He was past president of Shelbyville Central Schools board and a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He also was a member of Lodge 28 F&AM, Elks Club 457 and received a 50-year medal for the Lilly for Life Insulin Award. He was also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the NRA.

Mr. Scofield enjoyed a good day of hunting. He was always willing to locate a rare gun to add to his collection. In his younger days, he always enjoyed a good round of golf.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St.

A public viewing and visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at the church followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.

A private family graveside service will be conducted Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions honoring Mr. Scofield may be made to First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St., Shelbyville IN 46176; or Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Columbia Office, 710 E. 168th St., New York, NY 10032.

Murphy-Parks Funeral Services & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St., is handling the arrangement. Funeral directors Greg A. Parks, Sheila J. Parks and Stuart H. Parks are honored to conduct the services for Mr. Scofield.

We are sorry for your loss. We know he is in heaven with a lot of Ash and Scofield family members reminiscing about all of the good times we had together. May they be watching over us. Love and sympathy from the Idaho cousins.
