Cle Meloy Youngblood passed into God’s hands Friday October 19, 2012 at her home in Dallas, Texas. Cle was a native of Shelbyville, Indiana until she moved to the Dallas area in 1960. Cle was born October 10, 1917 to James Edward Mahaffey and Bessie Mae Anderson Mahaffey Cleophus Mahaffey Meloy Youngblood
, of Shelbyville. She was preceeded in death by her siblings, Carl C. Mahaffey; Estel E. Mahaffey; Violet Mahaffey Carson Carter and Doris Mahaffey Spurlin. Cle was married to Donald Cox Meloy of Shelbyville in 1951 and is survived by one daughter, Christy Meloy McLeod, and grandson, Brent George of the Dallas area, as well as step-children, Donna Meloy Long; Joseph Meloy; James Meloy and Connie Meloy Shuppert and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Cle was a lively resident of Shelbyville in her youth, participating on swim teams, tennis, young women’s baseball and bowling teams. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Cle loved music and dancing and won amateur talent shows as a young woman, and her love of singing and dancing served her through all her days. After moving to the Dallas area in 1960, she was certified as a professional bowling instructor in the early 1960’s and spent her working life teaching young and old alike how to enjoy bowling , from children with special challenges to some of the Dallas Cowboys football players.
Cle was widowed when Don Meloy passed away suddenly in 1987 while they were living near Waco, Tx. She continued to be a source of strength and energy to her family and community. She completed her High School Equivalency Certificate at age 70 and began volunteering with the Literacy Council in Waco, assisting foreign students in English. She studied Catechism and converted to Catholicism in the early 90’s. She was also active as a Red Cross Volunteer at the Waco Veteran’s Hospital . Cle continued to be active in bowling and dancing into her 80’s, and while dancing at a Senior Center in Waco, met and married Raymond Youngblood of Waco. In their almost 20 years together, they travelled the world, danced and truly enjoyed their golden years together. They bought a new home in Tyler, Texas in 2001 and to be near Cle’s daughter, Christy and her family. The entire family later moved to the Dallas area in 2007 and Cle and Ray were lovingly cared for at Sunrise Assisted Living .Cle was widowed in 2009, and continued to live at her assisted living home until her passing there at age 95.
Cle was always a lively spirit, a compassionate and steady friend to all. She enjoyed wonderful health and vitality most of her long life, becoming wheelchair - bound after an embolism in 2006. She remained a loving mother, grandmother and aunt to her family up to her last days, continuing to share words of caring love or a funny song with family and friends. Our world was enriched and encouraged by her joyful presence.
Graveside services will be Tuesday October 23, 2012 at 1:00PM at Forest Hill Cemetery.
