Robert Clinton Schwier, 40, of Indianapolis, died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, after a long battle with brain cancer.

He was born in Rushville on September 13, 1971, and raised in the Rushville, Shelbyville and Manilla areas. He had worked for the Rush County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher and reserve officer, receiving several awards and certificates of achievements. He had also been employed in security at Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs. His most recent employment was as an EMT in the emergency room at St. Vincent's Hospital on 86th Street in Indianapolis, specializing in assisting with major hand surgeries and traumas. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for Manilla and Milroy departments.

He was the son of William and Marty Schwier and Pamela and Ron DeBaun, who all survive, and the husband of Kelly (Mitchell) Schwier, who also survives.

Robert will be forever remembered as a loving father to son Robert Christian and daughter Hayley Iona, and as best friend and brother to Michael Daniels. Robert is also survived by an aunt, Sue (husband, Jimmy) Barnes of Rushville; two uncles, Tom (wife, Debbie) Wainscott of Knightstown and Ralph Baker of Manilla; three stepchildren, Brittney Bailey, Brandon Day and Jessica Mitchell; stepgrandson, Tyler Bailey, and step-granddaughter, Zoe, to be born in October; his mother-in-law, Sharon Bartley; special friend and caregiver, Bob Chasteen; lifelong friend, Tony Gahimer; and a host of extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, both paternal, Carl and Iona Schwier; and maternal, Mel and Mary Wainscott; and aunt, Carolyn Baker.

His skills at carpentry, his quickness to lend a hand to others, his passion for hunting and his infectious laughter while frequenting racetracks and casinos will be forever in the hearts and minds of those family and friends he leaves behind.

Extended family and friends are invited to a celebration of life and visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at the funeral home with Cedric Perry officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 9350 E. Washington St. in Indianapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to St. Vincent Hospice or the Brain Tumor Foundation in care of Murphy-Parks Funeral Service.

Pam and Ron, I will be unable to make it to the visitation tonight, but you are in my thoughts and prayers. We know Robert is in a much better place where there is no pain or tears. I can''t imagine losing a child and my heart hurts for you. Remember the good times and call if you need anything.

Pam & Ron, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know Robert was suffering and that
god knew it was time but nothing can heal the loss you are feeling. Just take one
day at a time. I enjoyed working Robert. He will be so deeply missed. Cherish your time you had and hold on to those grandchildren. I know Rhonda''s son has kept me holding in there. My prayers are with you.

Robert''s Family:

I used to be the Carthage Town Marshal in Rush County and Robert was one of my deputies'' for about three years. He worked for us while he was on the Sheriffs Department. He was a good police officer and great guy to be around. We called him the "Grape Ape" because he was so huge!!! I learned alot from him. I am very sorry for your loss.

Very Respectfully,

Mike Onkst
