Rita and Anita my heart goes out to you and your family. I have lived in Manilla now for 12 years, and I would see your dad often. He was always friendly. I remember spending the night with you both and going to Rushville High school as a visitor, or the spending time with your family after Church on Sunday. May God be with you and your family during this difficult time.

Anita, Rita, and Tony,

I was shocked to hear of your dad''s passing. My heart goes out to you all at this time. I remember growing up next to you guys and enjoying many fun times. I also remember feeding Johnnie''s pigs he had down the hill-when there was a "down the hill". I also remember the dog you guys had-Worthless. He was a wonderful dog! Your dad was always nice and I remember spending time with both him and your mom. Know you are all in my prayers at this time.

Love,

Angie Palmer Phillips

My dear friend Johnnie ...

I'm not going to say good-bye to you, for I know I'll see you again one day. The tears I shed are merely selfish ones ... because I will miss your ornery jokes, your laughter, your warmth, kindness, and most of all, the way you made sweet lemonade out of the most sour and bitter lemons in life. Your positive outlook, encouragement, and love have been an example to more people than you could ever realize. Your love and friendship will remain in our hearts forever. To know you and to have been called your friend is indeed an honor.

Johnnie, was one of the best friends I have ever had, his friendship can never be replaced, and my sorrow runs deep. The way Johnnie loved, and served others is a great example of how we all should live. Johnnie brought so much joy to my mother, and the rest of my family. I could never put into words the amount of gratitude and love I feel for him. My prayers are with his 3 children and the rest of his family and friends. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!!
