James Albert "Jimmy" Pruett, 74, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital & Health Center in Indianapolis.
Born Oct. 13, 1937, in Rector, Ark., he was the son of Troy V. and Ruth (Edwards) Pruett. He married Juanita Johnson on Aug. 14, 1993, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2010.
Survivors include son, Jim Pruett of Shelbyville; daughter, Vicki Heck of Shelbyville; son-in-law, Gary Runnebohm; brothers, Kenneth Foster of Arkansas and Charles Pruett of Dallas, Texas; sister, Mary Bell of Missouri; grandchildren, Kayla Owsley, Jason Pruett, Dustin Runnebohm and Jesse Runnebohm; and five great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Debbie Runnebohm.
Mr. Pruett was a U.S. Army veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He was a police officer, joining the Shelbyville Police Department on April 9, 1959, and retiring on April 9, 1979, after 20 years of serving the citizens of Shelbyville. Jim was a patrolman, detective and juvenile officer and was a captain at retirement. After retiring, he also was employed as a dump truck driver and insulation installer.
Jimmy loved to go fishing.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating.
Burial will be in the Norristown Cemetery in Norristown, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
