  Virginia T. Arata-Tutterow, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Community East Hospital, Indianapolis.

  She was born April 5, 1947 in Mishawaka, IN to Dr. Lucian A. Arata and Anne L. (DiFiori) Arata.

  Virginia is survived by her sister, Rose Ann Thurston, of Bloomington; niece, Beth Scott of Shelbyville; nephews, John R. Thurston of Alaska and Douglas Thurston of Shelbyville; 2 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, L. Christopher Arata.

  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Business and Professional Women’s Association.

  After retiring from a career in information technology at General Telephone, she developed a second career crafting jewelry.  She was an avid animal lover and led an active social life, playing Mah Jong and volunteering with the genealogy department at the library.  She also volunteered at the Children’s’ Museum in Indianapolis.  Virginia was also a volunteer tax preparer at the senior center.

  Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Murphy-Parks Funeral Services, 703 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.  The rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

  A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway, Shelbyville, with Father Mike Keucher officiating.

  Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

  Memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN. 46208.

  Funeral Directors, Greg, Sheila, and Stuart Parks are honored to serve the Tutterow family.
