HANKS, Burl Jr., age 86 of Gratis, OH. passed away on Wed. May 16, 2018 in Oxford.  He was born in Campton, KY. on May 21, 1931 to Burl and Elizabeth (Adkins) Hanks.  He was a graduate of Gratis High School.  Burl was a U.S. Army veteran and served from 1951 to 1953.  He had worked many years for Armco Steel, (AK Steel).  He was a member of James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion, Gratis Eagles Aerie#4289, VFW in Middletown and former Gratis Lions Club.  He attended Gratis United Methodist Church.  He is survived by son, Tim (Kim) Hanks, Hamilton, OH., daughter, Lydia Gray, Eaton, OH., 4 grandchildren, Corey (Shonda) Gray, Lindsey (Jeffrey) Ogden, Derek (Erin) Hanks, Jared Hanks (Sarah Paul), 9 great grandchildren and sister, Norma (Glenn) Fraley, Middletown, OH. and close friend, Jean Stine, Eaton, OH., many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Hanks in 2001, his parents, 4 sisters, Effie Kendel, Helen Barnhart, Allene Miller, Juanita Cates and brother, Robert Hanks.  Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Monday, May 21, 2018 at Gratis United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Wood officiating.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, OH.  Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 12:00P.M.  Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Gratis, OH. is in charge of arrangements.  For condolences: www.lindloffzimmerman.com

Burl was a very special person to me, he will be missed very much. Burl and Melba helped me so much in the Gratis alumni. We always had a ball doing them, Love ya Burl.
