On June 30, Mark Kenneth Pottenger joined his wife of 72 years, Virginia Andrews Pottenger, their infant son, Clayton, his six sisters, and his daughter-in-law in Heaven. Born in Colerain Township in August of 1914, Mark was the only boy in a family of seven children. A devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Mark served in WWII and worked at Rodgers Pontiac as the parts manager until retiring in 1979. After eloping in 1939, Mark and Virginia resided in Hamilton County, Eaton, and Trotwood before spending their retirement years in Kettering where he lived at One Lincoln Park for the last 22 years. Mark is survived by his two children and their spouses, Laura and Larry Budich and Edwin and Vi Pottenger. Grandpa Mark’s five grandchildren — Adrienne Adams (Matt), Jessica Stickel (Jeff), Nick Budich (Morgan), Alicia Amling (Matt), and Crystal Jenkins (Philip) — will remember his practical advice, strength, patience, and humor. GiGi Mark loved being a great grandfather of 10 (Logan, Peyton, Ashton, Rylan, Ella, Ben, Emma, Kaden, Elaina, Jacob) and was excited to be expecting another great grandchild in December. Mark is also survived by sisters-in-law Sarah Spitler (Eaton) and Martha Jane Jarrard (Portland, Oregon), countless nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home (67 W. Dayton Street, West Alexandria) on Sunday, July 3 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m, with a 3PM service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church of Kettering or Hospice of Dayton.

When I was young I remember Mark in the parts department at the Franklin St. location of Rodgers Pontiac. He oversaw the move from that location to the much larger service facility at Main and Foraker and the initial conversion to a computerized parts management system.
Mark's contribution to the growth of Rodgers Pontiac spanned three generations of the Rodgers family. I am grateful to have known him.
