GILBERT, Daniel O., age 92, of West Alexandria, OH. born June 7, 1922, used his ticket to heaven on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 1:35 P.M. Dan Gilbert was a 1941 graduate of West Alexandria High School and was a U.S. Army Sergeant, veteran of World War II, who served in an honored unit of the 99th infantry at the Battle of the Bulge.  He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann Eubanks Gilbert.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Patricia Wilson Gilbert, the mother of his two oldest daughters.  He is also survived by his 3 daughters, Janet (James) Lindsay, Powhatan,VA., Donna (James) Blair, West Alexandria, OH., Dr. Carol (James Mark) Bland, West Alexandria, OH., his grandchildren, Daniel Wackerman, Scott Wackerman, Jessica (Thomas) Donaldson, Elizabeth Blair and Arianna Bland, his great grandchildren, Joslynn Wackerman-Beneke, Daelon Wackerman, Brycen Donaldson, Kaylin Donaldson, his brother, Joseph Ezra (Audrey) Gilbert, Eaton, OH., sister, Elizabeth Ann Bowser, West Alexandria, OH., various nieces and nephews.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Alma Gilbert and siblings, Martha Miller, Mary Stevens and Sherman Gilbert. Ryan Post #322 American Legion.  Dan was a faithful man of God and long term leader in the First Brethren Church of West Alexandria, OH.  He would like everyone who reads this to join him in Heaven. You can know you will see him in Heaven by using this plan of salvation:  Admit you are a sinner, in need of a Savior: Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death…”   Believe that Jesus is God’s son, and died to pay for our sins:  Romans 6:23 “…but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.”  Romans 5:8”…while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”   Confess: Acts 3:19 “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…” Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”   The funeral services for Dan will be held 10:30 A.M. Uncle Dan..what fond memories my sisters and I have of you from our childhood! You were the uncle who played the pranks, made us laugh and let us know how much you loved us! I remember your homecoming after WWII, even tho' I was only a toddler, as Grandma Gilbert was so thrilled to see you again! There was a family gathering that was full of joy and tears. How thrilled she will be, and Grandpa too, to see you again. Save a space for us. We, too, will see you again. With love, Mary

Carol & Family,
It's hard to find all the right words to say.
Everyone that knew Dan, knows what a wonderful man of God he was. He always had a big smile and gave wonderful heart filled hugs. He was a man of much wisdom and would share with others whenever it was needed. I admired him so much for the way he always lived his life.
He was one of the main roll models for Jim. Jim has shared many experiences he had growing up on the farm and all that Dan taught him over the years. Dan was the "Upper Hand" for him. I thank God everyday that Jim had Dan in his life growing up to aid him into growing into the man he has become.
Know that our prayers will be with all the family during this time and beyond. Like it says. "He used his ticket for Heaven" and we know he was ready for the wonderful trip.
God bless all.
Love, Sarah Ward

Carol, I am so saddened by the loss of Uncle Dan. I admired him greatly and sorry I have not been able to visit with you and him for the past few years. I pray for you and him and hope that you can continue on and remember he is still with you in all you do. I can remember helping build the house he lived in on Dayton Street and the many times we all met at Grandma and Grandpa Gilberts for Christmas and other Holidays. I also remember meeting in the basement of his house and all the joyful times we had there. We will all surely miss him and wish you the very best.
Love, George Miller

My sincere condolences to Carol, Janet, Donna and Carol Louise. As one of the "several nephews" cited in the obituary of dear Uncle Dan, I wish I could be present in person to grieve with you all. Alas, the wintry weather and my continuing musical responsibilities at St. Andrew's Church in Greenville, SC, will make my being their impossible. Please know that I remember Uncle Dan with much love and affection dating from my childhood and all the wonderful family memories of gatherings at Grandma and Grandpa's and various aunts and uncles homes for Thanksgivings and Christmas Eves. May God bless you all and May Uncle Dan's soul and the souls of all the faithful rest in peace and rise in glory!
