COMBS,  James W., age 85 of Gratis, OH., son of the late Otto Combs & Chelcie (Gabbard) Combs went to be with the Lord on July 1, 2012.  He was born in Middletown, OH. on Sept. 23, 1926.  James worked for Duriron in Dayton, OH. for over 30 years.  He also served in the U.S. Army in Japan during WWII.  He was a member of the Gratis Fire Department for many years.  James loved and enjoyed life and loved cars and car shows.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby (Mullendore) Combs of 44 years, his brother, Junior Combs and sisters, Thelma Wolfe, Zella Worhley and Rometta Miller.  James was surrounded by his loving family, daughter, Dianna Asbury and husband, James "Jarbo" Asbury of Gratis, OH., 2 sons, Kenny and wife, Faith Combs and Greg Combs, all of Gratis, OH, grandchildren, Shannon Taylor, Renee Kidwell, Amy Walker, stepgrandchildren, Dylan Taylor Courtney Brown and great grandchildren, Matt DeGroat, Macy DeGroat, Kylee Kidwell, Ty Kidwell, Kinsley Walker and Bailey Walker, his brothers, Raymond (Joy) Combs, Meiges County, OH., Don (Sue) Combs, and Ralph (Joyce) Combs, all of Gratis, OH.  James was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather and great grandfather and dear friend to all that knew him.  James will be loved and truly missed by his family.  Funeral services will be 11:30 A.M. Thurs. July 5, 2012 at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Gratis, OH.  Friends may call at the funeral Home on Thurs. from 10:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Gratis, OH.  For condolences: www.lindloffzimmerman.

We got to know Jim through the Senior Center. He was always a joy to be around. We ran into him on several occasions at different eating places here in town too. We always joked with each other that we done a lot of running in the same circles as far as eating places go.You`ll be missed Jim .

Jim was a joy to be around, always joking and smiling :-) Came to the Sr. Ctr. and that's how I first met him. Such a pleasant man to be around. He will be missed :-( Tammy

So sorry to hear of Jim''s death. Visited with him and Hellen often at the Preble County Senior Center. He was a very nice man.
