SUGGS, Ray L., age 89 of West Alexandria, OH. passed peacefully from this life on Sat. Nov. 22, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton, following a 14 year battle with cancer.  Ray was born in West Alexandria, OH. on Sept. 2, 1925 to Jacob and Carrie Suggs.  He was a 1946 graduate of West Alexandria High School and member of Salem Lutheran Church.  Ray answered the call of his country following the attack on Pearl Harbor, joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943.  Assigned to the 4th Marine Division he participated in the Pacific Campaign of WWII attaining the rank of Corporal.  Ray was awarded 2 Purple Hearts and the Presidential Unit Citation.  He returned home and began a 36 year career with Dayton Power and Light.  He met and married Mary, the love of his life and began raising his family.  Ray served his community as a volunteer fireman, Village Council Member, Twin Valley Recreation Board Member, Boy Scout Leader of Troop 107 and was a member of James E. Ryan Post #322 American Legion.  Ray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary (Morgan) Suggs, 3 sons, Mitchell (Janice) Suggs, West Alexandria, OH., Steven (Cynthia) Suggs, Dayton, OH., David (Julie) Suggs, Canton, GA., 8 grandchildren, Lisa, Christopher “Kit”, Kyle, Leah, Shawn, Ryan, Derek, Mindi, 14 great grandchildren, brother Robert “Chink” Suggs, West Alexandria, OH., many nieces, nephews, friends and special neighbors. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Phyllis Quinn.  Funeral services will be held 12:00 P.M. Tues. Nov. 25, 2014 at Lindloff-Zimmerman Funeral Home, West Alexandria, OH. with Rev. Brian Nunnally officiating.  Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.  Donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or Hospice of Dayton.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tues. from 10:00 A.M. until noon.  For condolences: www.lindloffzimmerman.com
