Joan Elaine Rule Ashmore, age 77, of Boscobel, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019, at the University of Iowa  Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by her family. Joan was born July 26, 1942, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gifford and Mary (Robinson) Anderson. Joan married Ronald F. Rule on February 17, 1962, in Dodgeville. They farmed and raised four children on the Rule Family Homestead. Ron preceded Joan in death. Joan then married Avery Ashmore on January 17, 1997, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they enjoyed wintering in Florida, camping at Lake Mason, playing cards, especially Euchre, and traveling to see friends and family. She is survived by her husband Avery Ashmore of Boscobel and her children: Rhonda (James) Berenz of Waterloo, IL, and their children: James Berenz, Emily (Joshua) Webster, and Rachael, Mary, and Seth Berenz; Rochelle Rule of Madison and child Amanda Rule; Randy (Tammy) Rule of Dodgeville, and their children Jessica (Lane) Whitaker, Jennifer (Daniel) Bindl, Joseph and Jaynie Rule; son, Ron (Katie) Rule of Elk Mound; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters: June (Jerry) King of Milton, Linda (Don) Flickinger of Billings, MT, and brother: Stan (Mary) Anderson of Richland Center; brother in law, Jack Bauer of Richland Center; stepchildren: Mark (Debbie) Ashmore of Boscobel, Ricky (Tammy) Ashmore of  Rockland, Jimmy (Deanna) Ashmore of Fennimore, Janet (Douglas) Pittsley of Steuben, Laurie (Mark) Mindham of Gays Mills; 14 step grandchildren and 29 step great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, loving stepfather, Lester King, twin sister, Judy Amble, and sister, Janice Bauer. Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday , August 7, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home in Boscobel. Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating burial in the Hickory Grove Cemetery rural Boscobel. Friends may call on Tuesday August 6, 2019, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Kendall Funeral Home and also on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.  Online condolences can be sent to www.kendallfuneralservice.com

Uncle Avery and family I am so sorry to hear of the loss of aunt Joan. I am so happy I got to see her when I was there. I will always remember her smile. Love you and am praying God will give you peace during your time of loss.
