Margaret Brandes, 89 of Boscobel passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Boscobel Care and Rehab in Boscobel.  She was born June 28, 1926 in Crawford County, the daughter of Fredrick and Dorothy (Hudson) Sander.  She married Henry “Hank” Brandes on February 26, 1949 in Wauzeka.

Hank and Margaret farmed for many years between Boscobel and Wauzeka.  She worked along side her husband and her sons milking cows and raising chickens.  She was an amazing cook and always had fresh baked goodies and canned goods she grew in her garden.  Everyone was always welcome at her table.   Margaret was a member of homemakers, and the saddle club for several years.

Affectionately known as “Mugs” and “Grandma Hank”, she hosted the family New Year’s celebration until her health prevented her from carrying on the tradition, many years there were nearly 80 people who came to enjoy the feast.  She loved babies, with each new member of the family her eyes sparkled more brightly and her smile grew larger.

Margaret is survived by two sons: Dennis (Gloria) Brandes of Boscobel, Daniel (Theresa) Brandes of Ferryville. Six Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and two Great-Great Grandchildren.  She is further survived by three brothers; William (Ardith) Sander of Boscobel, John Sander of Lacrosse, and James Sander, Richland Center. Six sisters; Wilma Rounds of Boscobel, Lena Tainer of Gays Mills, Irene Cudney of Beloit, Alma Schleicher of Cassville, Mary (Francis “Jinx” Walters of Wauzeka, Emily (Jim) Jeglum of Reeseville.  Two sisters-in-law Phyllis Sander and Theresa Sander

She was preceded in death by her husband Hank on November 24, 1996, her parents, an infant son.  Three brothers Dick Sander, Don Sander, an infant brother Freddy Sander, along with an infant grandson Joseph Brandes.
