Klara Templeton ended 92 years of eventful, productive, and happy life on April 6, 2015, following a brief illness. Respecting her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Born in Strangeland, Norway on December 5, 1922 as the fifth of six children to Samuel and Tora Lygren, Klara was christened in the Lutheran faith. The pristine and rugged terrain of Scandanavia defined her view of the world, instilled and appreciation of nature's beauty, and forged and indomitable will and independent spirit.
Upon completing her education and training as a registered nurse, Klara worked in her homeland and with NORMASH(Norwegian Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) during the Korean war and Armistice. In 1957, she emigrated to the United Sates , and continued her profession at Sherman Hospital in Elgin Illinois. as a surgical supervisor until her retirement in 1972, when se married the widowed Howard Templeton, an anesthesiologist at Sherman. From there, Howard and Klara gleefully abandoned urban life and began raising sheep in Scott Township, continuing through Howard's incapacitating stroke and death in 1995, until winding down in 2001.
Learning was Klara's life-long adventure, whether it was through experience, reading, or travel. She spun yarn from the sheep she raised and produced wildflower dyes for weaving mats and wall hangings from her looms, along with knitting sweaters, scarves and gloves, which complemented her talents in painting, sewing and basketry.
Klara is survived by : Howard's children Peter, Lynn and Sara, grandchildren and great-granddaughter; her nieces and nephews in Norway; and the friends, neighbors and acquaintances who were delighted in knowing her and likewise treasured her company. Mange TAKK!
