Elva May Jones was born June 9, 1917, on the family farm in Marrietta Township, Crawford County, Wisconsin, to George and Veda (Chitwood) Miller.  She was raised on the family farm and attended country school near Boscobel.  Elva married C. Willard Jones on April 11, 1934, in Galena, Illinois.  After marriage they farmed in Marrietta Township for 5 years before moving into Boscobel where they operated a grocery store, and owned and operated the Maple Lawn Nursing Home.

In 1965, Elva and Willard moved to Farmington, Minnesota, and Elva continued to work as a seamstress.  In 1978, they moved to Burnsville and began spending winters in Florida.  In 1984, moved to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.  Willard passed away in 1993.  Elva continued to live in Prairie du Chien until moving to Northfield in 2007.

Elva enjoyed fishing, cooking, quilting, crocheting - crocheting an afghan for each of her great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, and being involved with her family and grandchildren.  She and Willard were avid and astute antique collectors and were very successful in that arena.  After moving to Northfield, Elva spent several years working at the Used-A-Bit Shoppe.  She was “feisty”, strong, determined, and of course - always well dressed!  Faith and family were the cornerstone of her life.

Survivors include her son, Harry “Deke” and companion Juanita Valley of Prairie Du Chien; her daughter, Beverly Ward of Northfield; her sister, Avis Loether Robinson Rice of Boscobel; 14 grand, 32 great-grand and 21 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her son-in-law Clark Ward, her great-granddaughter Amanda, her great-great-granddaughter Lilian, her parents, her brothers Olen and Clare (in infancy), and her sisters Alma Stanley, Margaret Gobin and Mattie Dilley.

Surrounded by the love of her family, Elva passed away Friday evening, March 6, 2015, at the Care Center of the Northfield Retirement Community, age of 97.
