For as far back as I can remember Dick always had a greeting for you when he saw you, whether it was on the street as he drove into Steuben in his pickup truck, or if he saw you at the local businesses, he always said "hello" or would wave. He is someone that I will always remember as being part of the history of Steuben. Dick knew how to have fun and was a generous funloving person to be around, at the shelter during Funday, or at his farm for a gathering, he was a life of the party. He will be missed by many including the members of our family. Rest in peace Dick!!!

Uncle Dick will truly be missed by lots of people, he was a Great Guy. I''ll always remember him in his flannel shirts ,blue jeans and a Cowboy Hat. Hold onto all the wonderful memories. I will always remember the Christmas Eves at your house years ago and rounding up cattle in the bottoms and at your farm. He always had a smile on his face and a Hello to everyone. Rest in Peace Uncle Dick you will be Missed by ALL.

We just wanted to pass along how sorry we are for the loss to your whole family. I have not had the opportunity to see Dick for so many years but have heard so many good things about him over the years out there in the valley. Though the Steuben Story was put together back in 1969, it would certainly never be complete without Dick Sander and his family being included. He is what I would call a true Steubenite.

Dear Phyllis, I get the Dial in St. Paul and just read about the death of your husband. Know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers this weekend as you celebrate his life and reunite with family and friends. May God''s peace carry you through these days. He was a blessed man to have you as his wife. Becky Swenson Hamoud (I worked with you in the 1970s)

Mrs. Sander, I was looking for something totally different when I found this on the web. I'm sorry for your loss. Almost 30 years ago I was farming, short on feed, and out of cash. I bought hay and haylage from Dick and he carried my feed bill unpaid for a couple of months even though he barely knew me. If not for him I'd have not made it through that winter. I eventually scraped up the cash to make it good. He acted like it was no big deal but I thought it was. I'm eternally grateful for his help at that time. I suspect that many others were recipients of his kindness in one way or another. The world is a lesser place with his passing.
