James B. Shumaker, Sr., 67, of 9625 NC Hwy 119S, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Caswell County, he was the son of the late Bristol Virgil Shumaker and Lethia Lucille Shoemaker Shumaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth Shumaker, Donald Shumaker, Richard Shumaker and Joey Shumaker.

Mr. Shumaker was a family man. His family was everything to him. He would gladly give up his needs for his family’s wants. Mr. Shumaker took care of his mother for most of his life and was a caregiver to his two brothers for the last fifteen years. He loved his kids and loved to spoil his grandkids. Mr. Shumaker was also a very avid turkey hunter and a member of Grace Independent Baptist Church.

Mr. Shumaker is survived by his loving wife of over forty two years, Shelia Chumley Shumaker of the home; two daughters, Kathy Shumaker (Christopher) of Mebane, Debbie Bottoms (Steve) of Roanoke Rapids; one son, James B. Shumaker, Jr. (Christie) of Mebane; one grandson that he raised as his own son, Christopher Bradley; two special nephews, Lee Shumaker and Richard Shumaker, Jr.; nine grandchildren, Cody Thornton, Chad Thornton, Brandon Shumaker, Nathaniel Bottoms, Jacob Bottoms, Cheyenne Thornton, Beth Thornton and Anna Shumaker; one brother, Jesse Shumaker; one sister, Elizabeth Pennwarden (Jimmy) of Danville, Va; five nieces and five nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Grace Independent Baptist Church by Pastor Charles Hamilton. The family will receive friends 6:30PM until 8PM on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Harrelson Funeral Services Chapel and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Lee Shumaker, Nathan Shumaker, Richard Shumaker, Jr., Justin Shumaker, Joshua Shumaker, Cody Thornton, Chad Thornton and James Aiken.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the James and Angela Aiken, Tammy Shumaker and Hospice and Home Health of Alamance/Caswell for their love, care and respect shown to James during his sickness.
