David Philip Leary, 12, of Stewartsville, N.J., entered into eternal life on August 24, 2018.

Born in Allentown, Pa., he is the son of David and Maria DeGraba Leary.

David recently completed the 6th grade at Franklin Township School in Broadway, NJ, and was about to continue his education at the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center in New Brunswick, NJ.

David had an infectious smile, belly laugh and an incredible sense of humor which touched everyone who came into his life. Through his challenges, David helped facilitate meaningful change and awareness in the disability community.  David will be greatly missed by his family, friends and school community alike, but he will be forever in our hearts.

He was the grandson of Veronica Simpson and the late Frank Simpson (North Haledon, NJ) and the late Joseph and Irene DeGraba (Exeter, PA.)

Surviving in addition to his parents David and Maria, are his brother Ethan, his Uncle Joseph T. DeGraba and Aunt Lisa DeGraba Dallas, PA., his Aunt Anne Wall and Uncle Donald Wall (Exeter, PA.), his cousins Joey and Megan DeGraba (Tunkhannock, PA), Gianna DeGraba, Dominic DeGraba (Dallas, PA) Christopher Wall and Michael Wall (Exeter PA).

In addition, David’s life was greatly enriched by his aides, teachers, and especially his home caregivers who have become family.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 9:30am until 10:30am at  the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, PA.,

Funeral services will be at 10:30am followed  by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00am at St. Barbara's Parish in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 224 Memorial St., Exeter.

I do not even know what to say to either of you that will make it any easier in this time of your grief. I hope each day that passes in your lives becomes one second more bearable, more comprehensible. He is at peace. He left his mark in your lives, and ours, for the time he was here. A lot of good was done and will continue to be in his name. He could not have had a better set of parents to help him with his journey here on earth. His work here was done.

Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Maria, Dave and Ethan,

I am so sorry and beyond sad David is no longer with us. Life is forever changed with his passing yet was changed for so much better with each day we had him. His laugh as he ran through the house and his big goofy grins will forever remain cherished memories. Love to you all.

Dearest David and Maria,

We here at Phillipsburg are so saddened by the news of David. Although he was only in our district for a short period of time, he was a great joy to work with! You are such a loving family that was so blessed with this great gift of a unique and special son that gave all of us a reason to become better people. The minute we were with David we immediately became more kind, loving, attentive and self-less. David made all of us better in our human condition. Thank you for bringing him into our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May God sustain you during this temporary separation and bless you most abundantly with great Hope in the Promise of eternal life. Much Love, Mary Jane

Maria,

We all want to say how sorry we are about your David. I wish we could express this to you in person, but words will have to do. Losing a child is horrible, I know. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything any of us can do. Love, Rosanne, Megan, Sean, & Ryan.
