James Gregory Dolhon, 83, of Exeter, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2018  at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born June 27, 1935, he grew up on Bunker Hill in Kingston Township, where he attended and graduated from West Moreland High School in 1953.

Son of the late Catherine Dobitas Dolhon and the late Paul Dolhon, Jim is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Violet Anne Vitiello Dolhon, his sons James, David and his wife Lisa, Gary and his wife Denise, and Gregory and his wife Melissa. He is also survived by his three granddaughters Melissa, Kelsey, and Danielle.

Big Jim, as he was affectionately called, spent most of his career in the sales division of the food industry, where he worked for Shop Rite and as a food broker with James O’Brown. He ended his professional career working as a supervisor for Stanley Zuba of the IGAs , which was eventually sold to Weiss Supermarkets where he would retire in 2002.

After retirement, his passion was working for the Wilkes-Barre Barons which is currently the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Railriders.

Jim was an avid follower of sports, where his seasons were marked by the Phillies and Yankees in the summer, the Colts and Nittany Lions in the Fall, and the Celtics in the Spring. One could also find Jim Cheering on the Dunmore Bucks and more recently the North Pocono Trojans, where his son Gregory is head coach. But his love of sports was second only to his love for his family, as his true happiness came from his adoring wife Violet, and his pride was rooted in his sons. His strong presence will be missed, but his memory will be cherished forever.

Jim was a member of Corpus Christi Parish, Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave.,West Pittston.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the church Saturday from 9:30am-11:00am.

A mass of Christian burial will begin at 11am.with the Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor, as celebrant.

At the convenience of the family, the burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC  1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
