Music by The Piano Brothers

Walter Carl Kozicki, 58, of Mountaintop, passed away on Friday May 27, 2016 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following an extended illness.

Born in Sugar Notch on December 27, 1957, Walter was the son of the late Charles Henry and Mabel Lawson Kozicki.  Walter graduated from Crestwood Area High School in 1976.  Following graduation, Walter worked extremely hard in the construction industry from a young age, mostly highway and guardrail projects, upwards of 18 hours per day.  Surviving are his siblings Charles and his wife, Lila Eyet Kozicki, Falls; William and his wife Nancy Berkant Kozicki, Kunkletown; and Barbara Kozicki Helmbold, Mountaintop; nieces and nephews, Edie Kozicki, Exeter; William Kozicki, Los Angeles, California; Zachary Kozicki, Doylestown; Ashley Kozicki, Doylestown; Brenda Helmbold Engler, Mountaintop; Brian Helmbold, Land of Lakes, Florida; and Charles Helmbold, Mountaintop; and several great nieces and nephews.  Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Kozicki; his beloved dog, Snap, who we know was waiting for him on the other side, tail wagging; and numerous aunts and uncles.

If you knew Walter, you liked him. Yes, there were family rifts. And, yes, you probably did not like him at some point if you were his neighbor (those epic bonfires) or if you had words (or fists) at the bar. Walter drank too much, smoked too much, cursed like a sailor ... and swaggered like one, too - all 5'3" of him. Walter was one of the most genuinely nice and caring guys who have walked this earth. Walter would help anyone with anything, no matter how big or small. He would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his wallet. He would always buy you a drink at the bar, no matter how broke he was.

Walter's family hopes that he has found the peace that he could not find on earth.

Walter's family thanks Dr. Wolanin for the excellent care he received at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

To all the Kozicki Family, We want to express our sincere condolences for the passing of Walter. Walt had a great talent with building and my basement is proof of that. He always seemed to make you laugh while in his company. He will be missed by many. Rest in peace Wally.

I found out late and have a heavy heart. Walt was one of the most genuine good guys I ever met or knew. He showed up at 7 AM and fixed the roof on my house, when no one else would even show up, and then didn't want to take any money. He got mad when I tried to pay him ! I watched Walt frame my brother-in-law Terrence's garage almost single handedly with the rest of us bumbling helpers- he had it framed and under shingles in less than 24 hours. Amazing. Walt loved cars and we all remember his Chevy Impala, Chevelle, and Camaro with those wild Imron paint jobs- and "spa appreciation night" at Walt's on his back deck. This was one special guy with a heart bigger than life. There was no one harder working man in this world, and no better friend once you got to know him. He had many tough breaks in life but went out swinging. Anyone who ever lost Walt as a friend, got the bad end of the deal, it was their loss IMHO. I highly respected Walt and his building skills were second to none. He didn't need blueprints or architect drawings- Walt saw the finished room, addition, or house in his mind- and could build ANYTHING. He also was an excellent painter and pretty good mechanic. Old school, you don't meet people like this often these days. He could build a garage or house from scratch with no plans, just his head. The most talented pure natural born carpenter and builder I ever met in my life. RIP buddy, you're up there with Mark now, doing that big concrete job in the sky. We all miss you and you went way too soon. With sadness, your friend Chizzy.
