Valeria M. Callaio, 88, died on Saturday, April 2,2016  at the Geisinger South Celtic Hospice and Palliative Care, surrounded by family.

Val was the daughter of the late Mariano and Nella Tredice Fanti, Exeter. She was married to the late Frank Callaio, Sr. in 1952 until his death on April 4, 1996.

She worked for many years in the cigar industries and later worked at the Casa de Carlo Restaurant, Exeter.

Val loved family gatherings, decorating for holidays, making any of her homemade specialties, playing cards with friends, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of Christian Mothers Society, St. Barbara Parish, Exeter.

The family would like to thank all staff members of Celtic Hospice for their care and compassion over Val’s 10-day stay in hospice. La famiglia desidera ringraziare il Dr. Luigi Spagnolini per gli anni di cura eccellente. Ha apprezzato molto i suoi appuntamenti soprattutto conversare in italiano con il Dr. Luigi.

In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers, Armando and Edo Fanti and sister, Nancy Pantucci, preceded her in death.

Val is survived by her sons, Frank, Jr. (Mary Ellen) Callaio, Lake George, CO; Tony (Cathy) Callaio, West Pittston, PA; and daughter Maria Earles (John Armstrong), Kingston, PA as well as grandchildren Erin Callaio (Dave Chessman), Dillon, CO; Christopher (Raegan) Callaio, Justus, TX; Francis Nicholas Callaio, Denver, CO; Tiffany and Ashley Callaio, Exeter; Shawn Earles, Kingston, PA; great grandchildren, Michael A. Callaio, TX; Coraline Chessman, CO, along with sister-in-law Anita Fanti, several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brothers in law, John ( Patricia) Callaio, and Tony Callaio, both of Pittston.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m., at St. Anthony of Padua Church of St. Barbara Parish, 28 Memorial St., Exeter, with Rev. Michael Finn, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will follow in the Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Relatives and friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Italian translation: The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Luigi Spagnolini for the years of excellent care. She really enjoyed her appointments especially conversing in Italian with Dr. Luigi.
