John A. Gillis, 67, of West Pittston, passed away on Friday September 4, 2015 at his home.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Bernadette Zdanovicz Gillis.

John was a 1966 graduate of West Pittston High School and a 1970 graduate of Mansfield State Teachers College, where he received a bachelors of arts degree in sociology.

He was a member of St. Barbara Parish at St. Cecilia's Church.
He traveled extensively while  working for the Otis Eastern Pipeline  Co., Wellsville, N.Y.,where he was employed for almost 43 years.
John enjoyed cruising with his 1979 El Dorado pick up truck and he belonged to the Liberty Sports Club, Hyner, Pa., the second love of his life.

Surviving are his sister Rosemary Gillis, Athens, Pa. and two special cousins, Conner and Nicholas Gould, Middlesex, N.J.plus  two very special young friends, Alexa  and Isabelle  Hines, Duryea. along with numerous other cousins.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 9:30am from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:00am at St. Cecilia's Church ( St. Barbara Parish), Wyoming Ave., Exeter. The Rev. Joseph Sibilano, O.S.J., will be celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Pittston.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 5 until 8pm at the funeral home.

Dear Rosemary, It is difficult to express feelings at this trying time but please accept my condolences Once you met John you knew you were in for a treat. His kindness and generosity were the make up of his life. Prayers for all of you and John my friend may you Rest In Peace

Sorry to hear about your brother Johns passing . I worked with John on many projects with John for Otis Eastern . I had a lot of respect for John he was Great guy . Flea markets . I remember how excited he was when the crew made a covered wagon for him from stuff we found on the pipeline . We will all miss him.
