John A. Ascani, 67, of Harding, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 6, 2015 at the Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton surrounded by family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Aldo and Genevieve Kravitz Ascani.

He was a 1965 graduate of Exeter High School and a member of the Pa. National Guard.

John was employed as a construction superintendent working on large projects throughout the USA.  He had Homeland Security clearance for working on government projects like the Groton sub base, Willow Grove AirForce base, the Capital building and many hospitals, medical centers and malls.  He was an avid hunter and got his deer every year.  He traveled all over the world , hunting and claiming 9 game in Africa,Alaska, Texas and North Carolina.  He was also a member of the Safari Club International.
His great love of life was the cabin and land.  You could always see him on his machines, clearing a field and finding a wet spot to put in another pond.  He was a MacGyver of sorts, always building something.  If you gave him a 2x4 he started another addition.  Cancer took away his sense of humor for a while but he is in a happier place.  God must have needed an addition in heaven.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Marilyn Rolek, and daughters, Danielle Ascani, Dalton, and Gina Mazza, West Wyoming.  Also sisters, Patricia and her husband Ken Pritchyk, Pittston, and Bernice Ascani, Cozy Lake, Pa.
Grandchildren: Gianni, Joseph (JC), Dominic, Dante, Graycie, and Avery.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday June 12, 2015 from 5until 9pm at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

A prayer service will be offered afterwards.

A memorial celebration of his life will be held in a few weeks at one of his favorite Italian restaurants.  Further details will follow.

Dear Marilyn & daughters,

I went to school with Johnny. He was a great guy. I was so sorry to hear that he became ill. Mildred always kept me posted on him. He always had great things to tell her and she would pass them on to our dinner gang. He certainly had a zest for life & he will be missed. I just wish we could have met up with him on one of our night's out. My prayers are with you & your family.
