Michael L. Mackachinis, 71, of Exeter, passed away on Monday March 16,2015 at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born in Inkerman, Jenkins Twp.,he was the son of the late Michael and Stella Klevinsky Mackachinis.
He attended Jenkins Township schools, after which he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served 4 years in Germany and received an honorable discharge in 1965.

Michael resided in Exeter Park the last 40 years and was employed at the Garlet Industries, Old Forge and then the Celotex Corporation, Harding, retiring from there after 36 years of employment.

In his earlier years, he was a member of the Oil Chemical Workers Union, having served as President . He was a past member of the Lithuanian Club of Inkerman and the Exeter, which he managed.

A devout Catholic, prayer was his priority.
He enjoyed helping the Salvation Army and donating his time for the special Olympics of disabled children. In his leisure time he loved tending to the garden, fishing and sports. An ardent Penn State  and Steeler fan, he attended many bowl games and participated in many fishing tournaments.

He is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Mary Ann Sabella, a sister, Patricia Mackachinis, Pittston and sister-in-law, Paulette Delevan, nephew, Attorney Philip Gelso, and his wife, Christina, and their son Philip, Duryea, a nephew Nicholas Gelso, Swoyersville, and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 9:00am from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter. A mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30am at St. Barbara Parish in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 28 Memorial St., Exeter with the Rev. Michael Finn, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. John the Slovak Cemetery, Schooley St., Exeter.

Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday 5-8 at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Gernhardt, and Dr. Ridella from the General Hospital and Dr. Shermann, Dr. Kane and Dr. Kathleen Peterly from the Hershey Medical center for their excellent care given to Michael.
