Edward R. Haggerty, 85, of Exeter, passed away on Wednesday February 25, 2015 at the Bassett Medical Center , Cooperstown, N.Y.  He  had been visiting his daughter Maggie Arthurs and her family when he became ill.

Born in Inkerman, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary Whelan Haggerty.

Edward was a member of the former St. Mark's Parish and most recently St. Barbara Parish at St. Cecilia's Church. He was a 1946 graduate of Jenkins Township High School and joined the Army Air Corps in 1948 where he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base.  He attained the rank of master sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1952.  He then worked at the International Color Corporation plant in Wilkes-Barre for 25 years and later at the Tobyhanna Army Depot until his retirement in 1994.  

Ed married the former Joan Rowan of Pittston Township in 1960 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 27, 2010.  They are the parents of three children Edward who resides with his wife Judy, Rowland Heights, Ca. ; Maggie who resides with her husband Jim, Cooperstown, N.Y., and Sean who resides with his  wife Jill, Scotch Plains, N.J.  Also surviving are grandchildren Erica and Eddie Haggerty, Ca., Autumn and Mallory Arthurs, N.Y.and Ryan and Katelyn Haggerty, N.J., his sister Mary Ellen Craig and many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.  

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Patrick Haggerty, Ann Marie and Margaret Haggerty.

Funeral services will be on Monday at 9:00am from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter .
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30am at St. Cecelia's Church ( St. Barbara Parish), Exeter.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton

Relatives and friends may call on Sunday March 1, 2015 from 5:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions, if desired, be made to St. Jude's Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

I am deeply sorry to read about the loss of your dad and grandfather. May you all be comforted in knowing that he is at peace and no longer suffering. Maggie, Jim, Mallory, Autumn and the whole Haggerty family,
