John T. Schall, 93, of Plains, died on November 23, 2013 at Wesley Village, Pittston, PA.

Born July 1, 1920 in Aberdeen, Washington and living in Plains Township for most of his life, he was the son of the late Joseph Schall and Mary Thomas Schall.

He was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School. He worked as an apprentice mason in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Columbia, PA.  John joined the Army during World War II.  He attended automotive technical training school in St. Louis before being assigned to the 1905th Engineer Aviation Battalion stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater.  He earned the rank of Master Sergeant in charge of heavy equipment and was instrumental in building the Ledo and Burma Roads.

He was the owner and operator of Schall Construction Co. of Plains, PA until his retirement. John built the Plains American Legion on Carey Street in 1955. John had many notable professional accomplishments including extensive work and craftsmanship done at the recently razed Hotel Sterling in Wilkes-Barre.  
John volunteered for many years at the Veterans Medical Center, Valley Crest Nursing Home and Wesley Village.

He was a member of the SS Peter & Paul Church in Plains & the Plains American Legion.

John was preceded in death by his wife Rena Pacchioni Schall, in 1999; and siblings Edward and Joseph A. Schall, sisters Barbara Hoffstat, Mary Lou Delahunty and Frances Rajnik.

He is survived by daughters Joanne and husband Carl Seiple, Breinigsville, PA; Linda and husband Harry Mc Donnell, Shavertown; Andrea Mantione, Plains; grandson Nicholas Mantione; son-in-law, Ross Mantione, Miami, FL.; sisters Jeanine Rosh, Springfield, NJ: and Margaret Johnston, Dallas, PA.

John spent the last two years of his life under the loving care on the Nurses and staff of Wesley Village. Tthe family would like to thank the staff  at Wesley Village Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility for their ever attending kindness to John and the family. Special thanks to Barbara Mantione for her tenderness and compassion over the years in helping care for John.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday from 5-8pm at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 9am from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, Plains.
Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial contributions be made to Luzerne County Bureau of the Aging, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
