Matilda ( Tillie) C. Serbin, 86, of Exeter, passed away on  Tuesday July 30, 2013 at the Commonwealth Hospice, St. Luke’s Villa, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Exeter, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose Vitali Ascani.

Tillie was a member of the former St. Anthony of Padua Church, Exeter, and a 1944 graduate of Exeter High School where she excelled as the first majorette of the school.
She was also the first dialysis technician trained in Pa., having worked for Dr. Rothschild and having worked and trained locally and in Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward in 1985, and sisters Pola Terleski, and Derna Hawkes.

Surviving are her sons, Michael and his wife Barbara Serbin, Wyoming and David and his wife Maria Serbin, Estelle, Pa.; grandchildren, Stephen and Janelle Serbin.
Also a brother Frank and his wife Barbara Ascani, Mechanicsburg, Pa., and a sister, Gemma and her husband George Antonik, Exeter, along with nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at  9:00 am. from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 am. at St. Barbara Parish in St.Anthony of Padua Church, 28 Memorial Ave., Exeter. with the Rev. Michael Finn, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday from 5pm-8 pm. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, Council 372, 55 S. Main St., Pittston, Pa.  18640

I want to add my deepest condolences on the passing of your Mother. There is never an easy time for things like this to happen, and my sympathies go out to you and your family.

Mike I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. My brother Pat also extends his condolences. I know you always took great care of her. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. If I can get away from work for her wake I will.
