Dr. Jennifer Ann Sidari, 26, West Pittston

Jennifer Sidari, MD, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, May 29, 2013 surrounded by family and loved ones at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.

Jennifer was the eldest of three children born to Peter and Patricia (nee Nicholas) Sidari.  Jennifer graduated from Wyoming Area High School in 2005 and went on to attend the University of Scranton, double majoring in Biology and Philosophy, and graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2009.  Jen received a full scholarship to The Commonwealth Medical College and was proud to be a member of TCMC’s charter class.  On May 11, 2013, Jennifer achieved her dream of becoming a doctor and was about to begin her residency in pediatrics at the Janet Weis Children’s Hospital in Danville, PA.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Anthony P. Sidari, Esq., and his wife, Ann, Hazleton, PA, and her maternal step-grandfather, Charles Strock, Hemet, CA.

In addition to her parents, Jennifer is survived by her brother, Peter Sidari, West Pittston, PA, and sister, Victoria Sidari, West Pittston, PA, maternal grandparents, Ms. Naoma Strock, Hemet, CA, and Mr. and Mrs. James Nicholas, Groten, NY, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  She is also survived by her beloved soulmate, John Brunza, Dunmore, PA, and their spoiled dogs, Isaac and Penny Lane.

Despite Jennifer’s shortened life, her accomplishments are innumerable.  Jennifer was nationally distinguished in her medical education and was nominated for the American Medical Associations Physicians of Tomorrow Award.  Jennifer combined her love for medicine with her passion for travel by volunteering in children’s hospitals and clinics around the world.  Jennifer’s most recent adventure took her to Haiti, where she arrived with bags of medicine, supplies, and toys.  Jennifer left Haiti with only the clothes on her back, donating all of her personal items to those in need.  This is one example of many acts that earned her The Commonwealth Medical College’s Global Pride Award, issued in memory of Dr. Raymond Smego, Jennifer’s mentor. Jennifer shared many friendships with people from all chapters of her life. Her infectious smile and selfless personality made it impossible not to love her. Her short life was filled with so much depth and love, and she will leave a lasting impression on all of those who had the privilege to know her.

Calling hours will be held at St. Barbara Parish Center, 28 Memorial St. Exeter, PA, on Sunday, June 2, 2013 between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, and between 6:00pm and 8:00pm.  A Mass of Christian burial  will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 9:30am at Corpus Christi Parish at  Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jennifer Sidari, MD Scholarship Fund at The Commonwealth Medical College.  Donations may be sent to: Student Affairs Office, The Commonwealth Medical College, 525 Pine St. Scranton, PA 18509. Although I was not particularly close to Jennifer, I was always impressed by her demeanor and willingness to do good for all of those around her. She was an ideal colleague and just thinking about all of the lost potential and memories is just such a very sad thought.

I plan to dedicate my future professional practice in her memory.

May she find peace in wherever she is now.

My daughter graduated from Wyoming Area and The University of Scranton with Jennifer. I have followed Jennifer's success throughout her high school and college years and was so, so, proud of her. A beautiful girl with a megawatt smile and intellect. She had accomplished so much in her short life and positively impacted everyone who knew her or knew of her. I will never forget Jennifer. Please accept my condolences. I cannot begin to comprehend the depth of your grief and words cannot adequately express my sympathy. May your faith sustain you knowing she is in the arms of her heavenly Father.
With prayers and most sincerely,

I did not know Jennifer and I do not know you personally. I did read the article in the paper and felt that I needed to tell you how much your daughter's time on earth was soooooo valuable. What a wonderful person. I have read the comments from everyone who cares. I would just like to roll them up into one and give it to you. There is probably no worst feeling than to lose your child. May God Bless You Always and See to All of Your Needs.

Mr. and Mrs. Sidari, I didn't know Jennifer but reading in the Times-Tribune today of her tragic death has affected me deeply. What a perfect example of God's love she was and how perfectly she did what all Catholics are supposed to do in spreading God's love and will to others. It's hard to understand why God called her name at such a young age and at the beginning of what would clearly have been a brilliant medical career but when you cross over you will know instantly why he did.
You have my deepest sympathy.

I had the privilege of being with Jennifer in Haiti. To all of you whose love gave us Jen-thank you. I am sorry for your and the world's lost. Among all of her talents and skills, the one that will be her legacy to me, will be her ability to relate to the humanity we all share. She saw her connection to all. It was a gift to see and to be a part.

Please accept my sincere condolences. It was such a pleasure to see Jennifer's transformation over the past four years from a new college graduate to a physician. I had the privilege of supervising her work in Haiti...she was confident, skilled and her love for her small patients showed through everything she did. She was a credit to her chosen profession and her impact on those around her will be long-lasting.

Pete,
No words can express the shock of this news.
We have talked in the past about how well Jennifer was doing and how proud the family was of her achievements. It was always obvious how much she meant to you. Try to remember, during this dark time, all the people that are here for you and your family. Much Love Petey.

I had the good fortune of getting to know Jen early in my first year at TCMC, as she helped me through some very challenging times with a kindness and dedication that I could never repay. I cannot express the depth of my sorrow that her life was cut so profoundly short and as I move forward in my medical training, it is my hope to embody the values and sense of purpose she exemplified-in an effort to honor a very great woman, doctor, and friend.

All my love and wishes to the Sidari family and the many members of our community Jen blessed with her spirit.

Jen was a great person - smart, hard working, determined, yet always so pleasant and quick to smile. She freely shared her gifts with others less fortunate; she will be missed.

I lost my husband at age 42, I know how this has to feel.
Such hard work and accomplishment taken away so abruptly.
God bless you all including her boyfriend and her animals.
I have not stopped thinking about her and you since I read about it.
Please know that even strangers are grieving and seek the support that you have out there. God bless all of you.
