Walter Carl Kozicki, 58, of Mountaintop, passed away on Friday May 27, 2016 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following an extended illness.

Born in Sugar Notch on December 27, 1957, Walter was the son of the late Charles Henry and Mabel Lawson Kozicki.  Walter graduated from Crestwood Area High School in 1976.  Following graduation, Walter worked extremely hard in the construction industry from a young age, mostly highway and guardrail projects, upwards of 18 hours per day.  Surviving are his siblings Charles and his wife, Lila Eyet Kozicki, Falls; William and his wife Nancy Berkant Kozicki, Kunkletown; and Barbara Kozicki Helmbold, Mountaintop; nieces and nephews, Edie Kozicki, Exeter; William Kozicki, Los Angeles, California; Zachary Kozicki, Doylestown; Ashley Kozicki, Doylestown; Brenda Helmbold Engler, Mountaintop; Brian Helmbold, Land of Lakes, Florida; and Charles Helmbold, Mountaintop; and several great nieces and nephews.  Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Kozicki; his beloved dog, Snap, who we know was waiting for him on the other side, tail wagging; and numerous aunts and uncles.

If you knew Walter, you liked him. Yes, there were family rifts. And, yes, you probably did not like him at some point if you were his neighbor (those epic bonfires) or if you had words (or fists) at the bar. Walter drank too much, smoked too much, cursed like a sailor ... and swaggered like one, too - all 5'3" of him. Walter was one of the most genuinely nice and caring guys who have walked this earth. Walter would help anyone with anything, no matter how big or small. He would give you the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his wallet. He would always buy you a drink at the bar, no matter how broke he was.

Walter's family hopes that he has found the peace that he could not find on earth.

Walter's family thanks Dr. Wolanin for the excellent care he received at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
