Louis John Mischianti, 92, of Plains Twp., passed away peacefully on Sunday August 23, 2015 surrounded by his family at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Mr. Mischianti was born in Old Forge on August 30, 1922. He was the son of the late Ettore and Mary Notari Mischianti, who migrated from Gubbio, Italy.  Mr. Mischianti was a member of St. Barbara Parish at St. Cecilia's Church, Exeter.

Mr. Mischianti graduated from Old Forge High School in 1940, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was a member of the "Fighting Fourth" Division. He was a decorated veteran, seeing action in the Pacific theatre including invasions fo the island of Saipan, Tinian, Guam and Iwo Jima where he witnessed the historic flag raising on Mount Suribachi   He was awarded a Presidential Citation for outstanding performance in combat and belonged to the American Legion and the Marine Corp League.

Mr. Mischianti was a successful businessman, who for 30 years, owned and operated Hy-Grade Pants Company, Taylor, Pa. which employed over 300 people.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Susan ( Lozzi) Mischianti, his wife of 41 years and a brother Leonard.

He is survived by his three children, Eileen Mischianti, Forty Fort,Pa.,Suzanne Mischianti, Warrington, Pa. and Louis, Jr. and his wife Joann, Greenwich, Ct., 8 grand children, Robert, Dawn, Jason, Benjamin, Kristin, Lisa, Gina and Sarah and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife, Janet Elsroth Mischianti who resides at Oakwood Terrace, Moosic, Pa. Sisters Rose Argiro, Newtown, Pa. Vera Calogero, Old Forge, and Hilda and her husband Philip Brigido, Warren, Ohio.

The family would like to thank his faithful and loyal caretaker, Rosalie Sorbelli, who cared for him with his family until the very end.

Funeral services will be on Friday at 9:00am from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30am at St. Barbara Parish in St. Cecilia's Church, Wyoming Ave., Exeter. The Rev. Michael Finn, pastor will be celebrant.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 at the funeral home.

Interment with Military Honors accorded by the U.S. Marine Corp. will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
