  Doris Margaret (Barthel) Spiegel. 96, of Syracuse passed away on Sunday. She was born in her childhood home on February 21, 1922 to Viola and Frank S. Barthel. Doris was a 1940 graduate of North High School. She worked at Easy Washer as a secretary from 1940 - 1947. In February 1947 she married John Spiegel and worked tirelessly at home caring for her husband and children until 1965 when she returned to work outside the home as a secretary at the Syracuse School District until 1985.
Doris enjoyed knitting, reading, crafts, Tuesday outings with her sisters and was very active in Assumption Church and all their activities. She especially loved working at and enjoying their sauerbraten dinners. Most of all Doris’s greatest joy was her family. Predeceased by her husband John W. Spiegel, a brother Frank Barthel and a son in law Marty Parkinson.

She is survived by her son Jack (Sue) Spiegel, three daughters Susan (Michael) Diehl, Janice Parkinson, Terri Monnet (Chris Kowalski), seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters Beatrice Hettler and Joan Phelan, several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am Thursday in Assumption Church. Entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Calling hour 10-11am Thursday in the church prior to Mass.

Dear Jack & Sue. She is in heaven now and happy and free of pain & sadness. Sending both of you prayers for strength during this time & hugs for comfort. Love you both.
