Mary R. Kowell

January 18, 2016

Mary Rose (Bex) Kowell, 89, of Syracuse passed away peacefully at Community Hospital on Monday January 18. Born on November 7, 1926, she was the youngest of 11 children. Mary was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, a graduate of Central High School, and most recently a resident of Loretto at the Cunningham. She spent her life as a devoted homemaker and loved raising her two children along with several family dogs. Mary had a passion for gardening and home crafts such as sewing and home decoration. She was especially proud of the collection of oriental artifacts she amassed and her African Violet plants that she grew. Her favorite times were spent with her children and grandchildren, trips to Lake George with her beloved husband, and weekly board-game nights with her sisters.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Richard L Kowell. She leaves behind two children: Donald (Barb) Kowell of Syracuse, Janice (Joe) Schmid of Fabius, five grandchildren; Lindsay (Marc) Therrien, David and Stephanie Kowell, Bonnie and George Schmid, and one great grandchild, Nola Therrien.

Calling hours and Services will be held on Saturday January 23, 2016 at Gang Memorial Chapel, 104 Fordham Rd, Syracuse, NY 13203.  Calling hours will be from 9-11am, followed immediately by Funeral service and subsequent burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

We were so very sad to hear of your mom's passing. We are even sadder that because we are in Florida and will not be able to attend the celebration of her life.
Rest assured, she will be in our thoughts and prayers. Our condolences go out to all your family.
