John T. Walsh, 71, of East Syracuse passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side. John was born in New York City, son of Patrick and Bernadine Walsh. He moved to Syracuse at the age of six.
He was a graduate of Assumption High School and attended Onondaga Community College. He served two years in the US Army. He retired as a Lieutenant  after 35 years of service with the Syracuse Fire Dept.
John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed attending all his grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. He enjoyed vacationing in Monument Beach, Cape Cod.  He was predeceased by his son, John Patrick, a granddaughter Hayden Newman, a brother Patrick, two sisters Mary Shelia, and Irene.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia (Bloss), two daughters Stacy Walsh-Newman (Carl), and Sara Walsh-Gilkey (Adam), both of E. Syracuse, his beloved grandchildren Ryann, John Patrick, Christopher, Matigan May and Tatumn, his brother James, of Arlington, VA and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his wife, daughters and grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday February 18 at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church 3127 James St. Syracuse.  There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held  in the spring.

Contributions may be made to the Humane Association of CNY, or CNY SPCA, or Hospice of CNY.
