Rachel A. Gavin, age 86, a resident of Glen Burnie for 52 years, passed away on December 8, 2017 after a two month illness.
She was born on August 25, 1931, in Belvidere, New Jersey, to the late Mildred and Alexander Rush. After graduating from the School of Nursing at Orange Memorial Hospital in 1952, she married and became a devoted military wife and mother of eight children. During her free time she liked to read, but her passion was always her family first.
Along with her parents, Rachel is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years: Gerald Gavin, who passed in 2002.
She is survived by her two loving daughters: Patricia and Elaine Gavin; her six devoted sons: Michael, Timothy, Gerald, Jr., Patrick, John, and William Gavin; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Family requests friends visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, 21122 on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM. Her funeral service will begin on Thursday at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband at a later date. Dearest Gavin Children,
Remember your Mom so well and your Dad as well. We lived right down the street in the "60's" babysat for your parents when they could get a little time together alone, whew 8 really was a test to two eyes : )))
Praying you feel the loving arms of our Lord surrounding each of you as you go through each day, knowing, your Mom is watching over you and along your Dad.

Thinking of your entire family at this difficult and sad time. Having known members of your family for near 30 years, I've been lucky enough to hear first hand what a wonderful and amazing woman Rachel is. Will keep all of you in my thoughts.
