Donald Melvin Airey, 93, a resident of Clearwater Beach for 64 years, passed away on April 17, 2015 at Mandrin Hospice Center in Harwood, MD.

Born on December 9, 1921, in Baltimore, to the late Virginia and James Airey, he served in the US Navy Submarine Corps during WWII. While stationed in Perth, Australia, he served on seven war patrols, primarily operating in the South China Sea, Java Sea, and the Sea of Japan. He was awarded several Combat Stars. Upon his return, he worked for EMJAY Engineering and Construction Company for 40 years until his retirement.

Along with his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years: Virginia Airey.

He is survived by his son Don Airey, of Upstate New York; his daughter Donna L. Korkala, of New Jersey; two granddaughters: Michelle Horvath and Pamella Ledingham, both of New Jersey; three great grandchildren: Hannah Horvath, Graham Horvath, and Olivia Ledingham; and his longtime loving friend and partner Jackie Curley, of Maryland.

The family invites friends to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11 AM in St. Jane Frances Church. His interment will follow, with military honors, in Glen Haven Memorial Park. Your parents were the kindest people. They were friends of my parents and were good people. I have very kind memories of them. Growing up during a time when we knew each other were wonderful and gentle times. A beautiful man.
