Vernon Arthur Schreiber, age 92, a resident of Pasadena for 59 years, and formerly of Locust Point, died on September 19, 2014.

He was born on August 30, 1922, in Baltimore, to the late Rebecca and William Schreiber. After the breakout of WWII, he joined the US Army, serving from 1942 until 1945 as a Corporal in the Army Air Corps 59th Service Squadron, and received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon while serving in Burma and India. He returned to work at the Port of Baltimore for 33 years as a Longshoreman with Local 333. In his spare time he enjoyed managing the Dorsey Speedway Stockcar Racetrack, making handcrafted leather goods, making wooden toys, and building lawn furniture.

Along with his parents, Vernon is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years: Cecelia Catherine Schreiber, (shown here with her husband) who passed in July of this year.

He is survived by his two sons: Rick Schreiber and his wife Gale, of Pasadena, and Dennis Schreiber, of Southern Maryland; his granddaughter Rana Smith, and great grandson Dax Arthur Smith, both of Pasadena.

Family invites friends to visit at the Gregory J. Gonce Funeral Home, PA, 169 Riviera Drive, Pasadena, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM. His funeral service will begin on Tuesday at 11 AM at the funeral home, with Rev. Milt Zahn officiating. Following the service, his interment, with military honors, will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Feel free to express your condolences here as well.
